Keep Section 377A
Thursday . July 19, 2007
Letter from Lim K Tham
General Secretary, National Council of Churches of Singapore
WE REFER to the article, "On Section 377A . " (July 16).
We would like to correct a point purportedly made by Reverend Dr Yap Kim Hao when he said that, within the Christian faith, only a "minority which is vocal" is opposed to the decriminalisation of homosexual acts.
Far from being held by a minority, the view that Section 377A of the Penal Code should not be repealed is held by the National Council of Churches of Singapore.
This association of nearly 200 churches includes the Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Assemblies of God, Evangelical Free, Church of Singapore, The Salvation Army and the Orthodox denominations as well as many independent congregations.
